Switzerland offers grant worth USD 1.8 bln for water project in Aswan

Swiss Ambassador in Cairo Yvonne Baumann announced that the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) would offer a grant worth USD 1.8 billion to a water project east Aswan.

The ambassador's announcement came during her participation on Tuesday in a celebration organized by the SDC on the occasion of opening the first phase of the project at a cost of nearly EGP 100 million.

On his part, Aswan Governor Ashraf Attia welcomed the SDC's approval to provide the financial allocations for initiating the second phase of this project, which aims to enhance the qualify of life for some 30,000 citizens in the Upper Egyptian governorate.

Attia added his governorate is keen on offering all possible facilitation to drinking water and sanitation projects financed by the SDC.
