As Sanofi progresses its digital capabilities, it intends to support access to healthcare services through the telemedicine implementation for atopic dermatitis and asthma patients as a pilot program in Cairo.
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El Meteny
“Using telemedicine for a lower carbon footprint in healthcare is a dual story for better health. Telemedicine is a recent development within healthcare but the COVID-19 pandemic accelerates proliferation. Research shows that telehealth could be an opportunity to work towards lowering healthcare’s carbon footprint through decreasing the transportation and other different types carbon-releasing activities. The studies reported that the use of telemedicine services leads to a reduction in the carbon footprint of healthcare. There was found to be a strong relationship between the carbon footprint saving and the average travel distance saving; highlighting that the majority of environmental reductions arise from reduction in travel to appointments. The consistency between studies and the scientific plausibility of the findings can give us confidence that telemedicine could play a valuable role in the transition to a net carbon-zero healthcare system.”
