Egypt finance minister urges insurers to be part of green economy

Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait called on insurers to contribute to speeding up the transition to a green economy and to invest in green bonds in order to make the insurance industry a part of the solution for the global climate crisis.

Maait's remarks were delivered by his deputy for treasury affairs Ehab Abu-Aish during the the fourth Annual Sharm El-Sheikh Insurance and Reinsurance Rendezvous.

Abu-Aish noted that the government is keen to offer all forms of support to the insurance industry, including tax breaks, increasing mandating of  insurance, and more support to pension funds.

​Egypt is to host the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh 6-18 November.
