The annual lists reveal the most trending search queries over a sustained period in 2022 compared to 2021.
The UN's summit on climate change, COP27, which Egypt hosted 6-20 November in Sharm El-Sheikh, was also among the top trending queries in 2022.
On a regional level, the review showed that more than two-thirds of people in MENA rely on Search to keep up with the news (74 percent in the UAE, 62 percent in Saudi Arabia, and 68 percent in Egypt).
According to Google, search trends this year showed that 2022 in MENA was the year of adapting following a global pandemic that created uncertainty around the world.
“The top trending queries this year reflect how people in the Middle East and North Africa come to Google to look for accurate and trusted information. From local and global news to entertainment and sports. Knowledge has been at the core of Google's mission since the very beginning, and we will continue to evolve Search to make it more helpful for users in the region and everywhere”, said Head of Consumer Marketing at Google in MENA, Najeeb Jarrar.
