According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi received Adesina ahead of hosting the annual meetings of the AfDB in Sharm El-Sheikh next May.

El-Sisi welcomed the cooperation between Egypt and the AfDB, expressing his appreciation for the bank's role in supporting development sectors on the African continent, especially in light of the growing economic challenges at the international level, presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy stated.

The President of the African Development Bank praised Egypt’s development projects during the past few years, especially in electricity, water treatment and reuse and the development of unplanned residential areas.

Adesina noted that they focus on encouraging continental economic integration and mechanisms for bridging the climate financing gap on the African continent.

Up to 4,000 participants are expected to attend the 2023 annual meetings held at the Sharm El-Sheikh International Conference Centre on 22-26 May.

The meetings bring together finance ministers from the Bank Group’s 81 regional and non-regional member countries.

The events are also attended by governors of the Central Bank, key private sector leaders, academics and development partners.

The Annual Meetings’ theme for 2023 is Mobilising Private Sector Financing for Climate and Green Growth in Africa.
