On the occasion of the Labour Day holiday, all banks operating in Egypt will be closed from Thursday, with work resuming on Sunday, 7 May 2023," the CBE said in its statement on Thursday.

Last week, the Egyptian cabinet announced Thursday, 4 May, as the annual paid Labour Day holiday for public and private sector employees, thus allowing for a long weekend.

Labour Day, known internationally as International Workers' Day, is celebrated on the first day of May and falls on Monday this year.
