Egypt's exports to US shrink 9.1% in 2022: CAPMAS

Egyptian exports to the United States declined by 9.1 percent to $2.3 billion in 2022 from $2.5 billion a year earlier, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Egypt's imports from the US reached $6.8 billion, a 5.9 percent increase over the prior year.

Around 58 percent of Egyptian exports to the world's top economy were ready-made clothes, totalling $1.3 billion last year.

Key US exports to Egypt were grains, oil seeds and medical plants.

Egyptian exports to other Western trade partners (Germany, Spain, France and the UK) rose in 2022, said Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir.

Egypt's total non-oil trade balance deficit decreased by around $6.5 billion to $17.3 billion in H1 FY2022/2023, compared to around $23.8 billion, in the comparative period the year before.
