The event is scheduled to be held in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on 25-26 September.

The meetings are expected to host around 3,000 influential international figures, including 106 finance ministers and central bank presidents, according to a statement by Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait.

The AIIB meetings, which will be held for the first time in Africa, are meant to support multilateral and cross-border development, said Maait, who is also Egypt's governor to the AIIB.

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is set to attend the inauguration of the AIIB meetings, Maait said this week.

As a founding member of the AIIB, Egypt contributes to fostering the Africa-Asia partnership in order to achieve sustainable development goals, improve the services provided to people in Africa, and facilitate their livelihoods, according to Maait.

Egypt and the AIIB have been sharing a solid relationship since the country joined the bank as a non-regional founding member in August 2016.

Egypt received around $1.3 billion from the AIIB to fund five projects, including the construction of the Alexandria-Abu Qir metro line and Benban Solar Power Plant in Aswan, and to decrease the budget deficit and develop the water sector.
