USD rate hits highest level against EGP on Monday since March

The US dollar reached its highest level against the Egyptian pound on Monday since 7 March, only a day after Egypt’s last EGP devaluation decision, according to the Central Bank of Egypt's (CBE) official website.

Monday’s rate on the CBE’s website is EGP 49.20/$1 for buying and EGP 49.30/$1 for selling, compared to EGP 49.34/$1 for buying and EGP 49.44/$1 for selling on 7 March.

On 6 March, the CBE decided to float the Egyptian pound for the fourth time since early 2022. This caused the US dollar exchange rate to rise to EGP 50.1, compared to EGP 30.9 the day before.

Egyptian banks posted their Monday USD/EGP exchange rates on their official websites, as follows.

The National Bank of Egypt's (NBE) rate is EGP 49.20/$1 for buying and EGP 49.30/$1 for selling.

The rate for Banque Misr is EGP 49.20/$1 for buying and EGP 49.30/$1 for selling.

The Commercial International Bank's (CIB) rate is EGP 49.20/$1 for buying and EGP 49.30/$1 for selling.

For Banque Du Caire, the rate is EGP 49.20/$1 for buying and EGP 49.30/$1 for selling.

Egypt is currently engaging in an $8 billion loan deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), under which it is committed to adopting a flexible regime for exchange and interest rates as key measures to put the country’s economy on a corrective path.

Additionally, global markets and exchange rates suffered instabilities on Monday due to the heightened regional tensions, especially after multiple news sources predicted on Sunday that Iran would launch an attack on Israel on Monday.

Euros
 

According to data from the CBE’s official website, the euro reached its highest rate against the EGP on Monday since 6 March, the last time Egypt devalued its currency. 

Monday’s rate on the CBE’s website is EGP 53.88/1 EUR for buying and EGP 53.99/1 EUR for selling, compared to EGP 53.78/1 EUR for buying and EGP 53.91/1 EUR for selling on 6 March.

Egyptian banks posted their Monday EUR/EGP exchange rates on their official websites, as follows.

The National Bank of Egypt's (NBE) rate is EGP 53.59/1 EUR for buying and EGP 54.11/1 EUR for selling.

The rate for Banque Misr is EGP 53.59/1 EUR for buying and EGP 54.11/1 EUR for selling.

For the Commercial International Bank (CIB), the rate is EGP 53.59/1 EUR for buying and EGP 54.11/1 EUR for selling.

Banque Du Caire's rate is EGP 53.59/1 EUR for buying and EGP 54.11/1 EUR for selling.


Saudi riyals
 

According to data from the CBE’s official website, the Saudi riyal hit its highest rate against the EGP since 10 March, just a few days after the devaluation of the EGP.

Monday’s rate on the CBE’s website is EGP 13.11/1 SAR for buying and EGP 13.13/1 SAR for selling, compared to EGP 13.09/1 SAR for buying and EGP 13.12/1 SAR for selling on 10 March.

The National Bank of Egypt's (NBE) rate is EGP 13.10/1 SAR for buying and EGP 13.14/1 SAR for selling.

The rate for Banque Misr is EGP 13.10/1 SAR for buying and EGP 13.14/1 SAR for selling.

The Commercial International Bank's (CIB) rate is EGP 13.05/1 SAR for buying and EGP 13.14/1 SAR for selling.

The rate for Banque Du Caire is EGP 13.10/1 SAR for buying and EGP 13.14/1 SAR for selling.


UAE Dirham
 

According to the CBE’s official website, the UAE Dirham reached its highest level against the Egyptian pound on Monday since 7 March, only a day after Egypt’s last EGP devaluation decision.

Monday’s rate on the CBE’s website is EGP 13.39/1 AED for buying and EGP 13.42/1 AED for selling, compared to EGP 13.43/1 AED for buying and EGP 13.46/1 AED for selling on 7 March.

The National Bank of Egypt's (NBE) rate is EGP 13.38/1 AED for buying and EGP 13.42/1 AED for selling.

For Banque Misr, the rate is EGP 13.38/1 AED for buying and EGP 13.42/1 AED for selling.

Banque Du Caire's rate is EGP 13.38/1 AED for buying and EGP 13.42/1 AED for selling.
