This came during the Opening of the First Conference of Food Industry Exporters in the presence of Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan ElKhatib.
Berzi added that the food industry exports recorded $3.7 billion from January 2024 to July 2024, a 23 percent growth compared to the same period in 2023.
He noted that Egypt food industry exports have recorded a total of $36 billion over the past 10 years.
Berzi added that food industry exports have witnessed a remarkable development in the past three years, with exports reaching $20.4 billion.
Food industry exports come in second after exports of constraction materials, which recorded $4.7 billion, according to Ministry of Industry and Transport.
Arab countries topped food industry exports' destinations by 52 percent, followed by the EU by 22 percent, the non-Arab African countries by 7 percent, the United States by 5 percent, and the rest of the world by 14 percent.
Moreover, top exported food commodities were frozen strawberries, soft drink concentrates, sugar, glucose, lactose, flour and starch, and animal feed.
Berzi added that 13 Egyptian food industries ranked among the world’s top nine export products in 2023, including frozen strawberries, dried unions, and baking powder.
According to the Industrial Modernisation Centre (IMC), investments in the food industries sector in Egypt are estimated at EGP 500 billion.
Additionally, the IMC indicated that the food industry contributes 24.5 percent to the country's GDP and employs 23.3 percent of the nation's workforce at seven million job opportunities.
