Egypt, UK sign MoU in Food Security

Egypt and the United Kingdom (UK) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in food security on Wednesday, the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation said in a statement.

According to the statement, the MoU was signed by Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, and Hamish Falconer, Minister for the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan at the British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

The statement added that the MoU aims to establish a strategic partnership between Egypt and the UK in sustainable food security. This partnership includes exchanging technical expertise by implementing a new pilot program to boost local wheat production and sustainable agriculture.

In her remarks, Al-Mashat explained that the MoU reflects the historical ties between Egypt and the UK at all levels, including cooperation within the National Platform for Green Projects (NEFE).

She emphasized that food security represents a shared interest and a top priority for countries worldwide in light of climate change, developmental challenges, and geopolitical tensions.
