The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation has made Egypt's new economic plan, Economic Development Narrative: Policies to Support Growth and Employment, available on its official website, inviting economists, researchers, and academics to review and submit feedback as part of the ministry’s “Share” campaign.

The ministry launched the new narrative last week under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.

The narrative charts a map for the Egyptian economy through 2030 with a concentration on five sectors: tourism, information and communication technology (ICT), manufacturing, agriculture, and energy.

The new narrative is now available for a community dialogue that is scheduled to close in November, and a new version that includes the feedback will be released in December.

Through the online platform, users can access a summary of the narrative, download individual chapters, view the executive summary, and watch footage of the launch conference.

The site also enables the public to submit comments on specific chapters and topics directly.

Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat called on stakeholders to engage actively with the framework, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue.

She said the ministry will host a series of events and discussion sessions in the coming period to broaden participation from researchers, academics, and economic experts.

Launched under the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the narrative seeks to align the government’s action plan with Egypt Vision 2030 while responding to fast-changing regional and global dynamics.

It focuses on boosting macroeconomic stability, attracting foreign direct investment, promoting industrial development, and expanding Egypt’s export base.

The framework sets out targets through 2030 and beyond, with a particular emphasis on strengthening private sector participation, consolidating fiscal sustainability, and leveraging Egypt’s upgraded infrastructure.

According to the ministry, the narrative is built around three main pillars: stabilizing the macroeconomy, improving competitiveness and the business climate, and advancing the green transition.

The initiative is also anchored in State General Planning Law No. 18 of 2022 and the Unified Public Finance Law No. 6 of 2022, which aim to integrate development planning with macroeconomic policy and improve the use of national resources.

Following the launch of the narrative, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) called on Egypt to accelerate structural reforms to unlock the country’s growth potential, create high-quality jobs for its expanding population, and build resilience against external shocks.

An IMF mission is expected to visit Cairo this fall to complete the fifth and sixth reviews of Egypt’s $8 billion loan deal and the first review of the $1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) programme.
