According to the census, Egypt recorded around 3.9 million economic establishments, with the private sector accounting for 99.8 percent of the total, while public and state-owned enterprises accounted for only 0.2 percent.
The census also revealed that the total number of workers reached 15.2 million, with 93.9 percent employed in the private sector and 6.1 percent in the public and public business sectors.
Total output amounted to EGP 8.9 trillion, while total wages reached EGP 744.2 billion, and aggregate value added was estimated at EGP 5 trillion.
Results further showed that both the formal and informal private sectors together form the backbone of Egypt’s national economy.
The informal private sector alone generated EGP 7.6 trillion, representing 92.3 percent of total private-sector output, with wages totalling EGP 596.7 billion and around 2 million establishments, accounting for 50.7 percent of all private entities.
CAPMAS noted that the Economic Census is the only comprehensive statistical tool that offers a full picture of Egypt’s economic structure across all sectors—formal and informal—and provides detailed data on inputs and outputs for each activity.
The census supports evidence-based planning and helps measure the contribution of various sectors to GDP.
The agency emphasized that the data serve as a vital foundation for shaping economic and social policies, directing investments to priority sectors and regions, and supporting efforts to integrate the informal economy and enhance the efficiency of development policies in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
