Egypt, Qatar to sign major investment partnership in Matrouh within days
The agreement was discussed during a meeting in Doha between Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the first Global Coalition Leaders’ Summit on Combating Hunger and Poverty.
The statement added that the deal will activate a Qatari investment package in Egypt, previously discussed between Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The statement didn’t provide further details on the project.
The talks reaffirmed the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening economic, investment, and trade cooperation, building on earlier discussions between President El-Sisi and Emir Tamim, according to a statement.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed Qatar’s readiness to expand its investments in Egypt across multiple sectors, voicing full support for Egypt’s development efforts and praising the close coordination between Cairo and Doha on the Palestinian crisis.
He also congratulated Egypt on the official inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum, describing the event as “a spectacular global celebration worthy of Egypt’s heritage.”
PM Madbouly, who represented President El-Sisi at both the Global Coalition Leaders’ Summit and the Second Global Summit for Social Development, conveyed the president’s greetings to the emir of Qatar and reaffirmed Egypt’s pride in the strong and brotherly ties between the two nations.
He emphasized Cairo’s keenness to broaden cooperation in the near future, particularly in investment, infrastructure, and trade.
Cabinet Spokesperson Mohamed El-Hommosany said the meeting also reviewed the latest developments in Gaza and Egypt’s ongoing efforts to implement the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement aimed at achieving a lasting ceasefire.
Both sides stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of the outcomes of the sixth session of the Egypt-Qatar Joint Higher Committee, held in New Alamein in August, and moving forward with the memoranda of understanding signed during that session to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
