An Egyptian official is heading to London to discuss the return of assets allegedly smuggled abroad by members of the Mubarak regime, German news agency DPA reports.
Minister of Parliamentary and Legal Affairs Mohamed Mahsoub flies to the UK on Thursday on a three-day visit that will also see him attempt to reach an agreement for the extradition of Mubarak-era officials sentenced in absentia.
The UK government claims to have frozen a total of £85 million ($133 million) worth of Egyptian assets.
But a six-month investigation by the BBC revealed that other assets linked to 19 key officials, including high-end properties, had been left untouched. British officials said that they had insufficient information to implement a full freeze.
Egypt previously sought a bilateral treaty for criminal extraditions with the UK in May.
Public demand for such a treaty has been spurred by regular UK sightings of Youssef Boutros Ghali, Egypt's former minister of finance, who lives openly in London.
In mid 2011, Ghali was sentenced in absentia to 30 years after being found guilty of corruption by an Egyptian court.
