
Mohamed El-Gawsaky as the new CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).
El-Gawsaky succeeds Hossam Heiba, who served as GAFI’s CEO for three years.
El-Gawsaky has more than 20 years of experience across the public and private sectors in the Middle East and North Africa, with a background in planning, operations management, investment promotion, and policy development related to the business climate.
Until recently, he served as deputy minister at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, where he oversaw trade-related files and digital transformation initiatives, and worked on strengthening Egypt’s foreign trade capacity and international partnerships.
Between 2018 and 2020, El-Gawsaky was a state undersecretary at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, where he headed the Central Department for International Relations. In that role, he coordinated cooperation with international organisations and companies and worked on attracting investment to the ICT sector, according to his LinkedIn profile.
GAFI operates under the authority of the Egyptian cabinet and is responsible for regulating and facilitating investment in Egypt and its free zones.
The authority oversees investment frameworks and procedures, manages free zone development, supports entrepreneurship, and promotes both domestic and foreign investment across priority sectors.
