Agricultural exports have also surged by around 10.5 percent or 800 thousand tons in 2025, reaching 9.5 million tons for the first time, up from over 8.6 million tons in 2024.

Fresh food exports made up around 24.5 percent of the country’s total exports, with citrus fruits at the top of exported fresh food, reaching 2 million tons exported in 2025, followed by potatoes at 1.3 million tons, sweet potatoes at 387,000 tons, beans at 336,000 tons, and onions at 288,000 tons.

Agriculture is one of Egypt’s five priority sectors targeted under its latest set of incentives and policies to increase private sector investments and involvement and its contribution to the country’s economy, creating more job opportunities and increasing local production and exports, as per the new economic development narrative for the next five years.

Earlier this year, Egypt set a goal to increase annual exports to $115.8 billion by 2030, lower than the $145 billion target announced in January 2024. Overall exports were expected to grow by around 20 percent in 2025 to between $48 billion and $50 billion.

Furthermore, Egypt is targeting for non-oil exports to increase by 15-20 percent annually, as part of a strategy to double total exports and support foreign currency inflows and reduce pressure on public finances.

The government allocated EGP 144.8 billion ($3.1 billion) in investments for its agriculture and irrigation sectors during FY2025/2026. It also announced the continuation of its flagship initiative in October 2025 to support productive sectors such as agriculture, offering EGP 90 billion in financing facilities.

The agriculture sector’s output is projected to climb to EGP 5.7 trillion by 2028/29, while net agricultural value added is targeted at EGP 2.6 trillion in 2025/26, rising to EGP 4 trillion within four years.

Egypt's agricultural exports rose 7 percent from January 2024 to 4 September to reach $3.6 billion, a growth of more than $800 million compared to the same period in 2023.
