These moves aim to provide safe investment measures, as the country's annual inflation rate rose to 13.5 percent in March 2026, up from 11.5 percent in February, amid global financial repercussions of the regional conflict.
Earlier this month, Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the CBE kept key policy interest rates unchanged.
Overnight deposit rate maintained at 19 percent, the overnight lending rate at 20 percent, and the main operation rate at 19.5 percent, and the discount rate also held steady at 19.5 percent.
During the first meeting of the year before the start of the regional conflict between the US and Iran, the MPC cut its key policy rates by 100 basis points, due to the declining inflationary pressures at the time.
The next meeting for CBE’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to decide changes in interest rates will be on 21 May 2026.
