Banks in Egypt will reopen and resume standard business hours on Sunday

Banks in Egypt will reopen tomorrow, 20 February, announced the Central Bank of Egypt, stating the decision was made to satisfy customer needs and avoid additional setbacks to the Egyptian economy.

Banks closed after police disappeared from the streets following the 25 January revolt, giving way to looting and vandalism.

They reopened briefly but were forced to shut their doors again last Monday when thousands of employees, including some in the banking industry, staged strikes after president Hosni Mubarak stepped down on 11 February.

Protesters were thus requested to assign committees of 10 to 20 members to communicate their demands to the Central Bank of Egypt. The committee meetings are scheduled to begin Monday.
