Egypt is making strides towards launching 5G networks and artificial intelligence applications, said the cabinet's Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) on Saturday.

The IDSC detailed in a recent report Egypt’s efforts to kickstart the fourth industrial revolution and the prominent international experiences Egypt can benefit from.

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has been working on broadband optical fibres, which are necessary for the fourth industrial revolution, the centre said, adding that 5,300 government buildings were provided with fibre optic cables.

The NTRA is working on supplying 32,000 buildings with these cables to the tune of EGP 6 billion, the IDSC added.

Egypt is cooperating with global companies Exxon and Nokia to upgrade the cloud core network and provide 5G networks, in addition to launching the Egyptian satellite Tiba 1 to provide the country with communications and Internet services, the centre stated.
