His announcement came during his participation in the activities of the 41th session of GITEX Global 2021 that kicked off in Dubai.

Talaat said that his ministry contracted a global consulting firm to set out the features of the third stage of upgrading the fixed internet in Egypt, noting that the first and second phases cost around one billion dollars.

He added that the third phase targets supplying 4,500 villages included in the presidential initiative "Hayat Karima" with internet services within three years.

The communications minister pointed out that the internet speeds were doubled 7 times, from 6.5 Mbit/s to 44.5 Mbit/s.

He went on to say that Egypt's participation in GITEX Global is aimed at luring global technology companies seeking to inject foreign direct investments into the Egyptian market, to benefit from the tremendous technological boom in the country and get acquainted with the promising investment opportunities.

Talaat revealed that a number of cooperation agreements with major technological companies would be signed on the sidelines of the show.
