According to an announcement from META’s WhatsApp on Twitter and Threads earlier on Tuesday, the new feature has been launched in Egypt, Chile, Malaysia, Morocco, Ukraine, Kenya and Peru.

WhatsApp Channels are a one-way broadcast service that allows admins to send text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls to an unlimited number of followers.

Channels are a private way for users to follow information from people and organizations important to them and are separate from personal chats and calls.

Channels messages will show up on WhatsApp in a new tab labelled Updates.

META rolled out the feature last month in Singapore and Colombia with partners including Heart Foundation and fact-checker Colombia Check.

The feature will be rolled out for the rest of the world in the next few months.

According to Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, there are 51.45 million active WhatsApp users in the country.
