The company said this milestone is part of e& Egypt’s broader strategy to boost local manufacturing and provide innovative technology solutions that meet the needs of customers. The strategy also focuses on exporting Egyptian-made products to international markets.

The new router, designed with 5G technology, is the first of its kind to be locally produced by an Egyptian company. It represents a major advancement in Egypt's technology and telecommunications sector. The router has been developed in collaboration with the Chinese company ToZed, which specializes in networking devices.

In October, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) signed an agreement with the three leading telecom companies: Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, and e& Egypt, granting them licenses for fifth-generation (5G) mobile services.

As part of this collaboration, ToZed is transferring its advanced expertise to the SICO factory in Assiut to ensure that the products meet international quality standards, further enhancing the excellence of e& Egypt's offerings.

“This effort reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the local manufacturing sector and aligns with its vision to strengthen Egypt’s technological infrastructure and contribute to sustainable economic development,” according to e& Egypt's statement.

Furthermore, e& Egypt noted that its partnership with SICO represents a key step in positioning Egypt as a regional technology and digital manufacturing hub.  It added that this move is expected to open new opportunities for the local telecommunications and information technology industries, reinforcing Egypt's role as a leading player in the global tech landscape.

Strategic Vision for Local Industry Development

"This step is a significant achievement that reflects our ambitious vision to enhance local industry in Egypt. It supports the country’s economic growth and the development of its technology sector," said Ahmed Yehia, CEO of e& Egypt's Financial Technology and Digital Applications.

"We firmly believe that investing in local industry is crucial to achieving technological excellence. This aligns perfectly with the Egyptian government's strategy to localize electronics manufacturing, and we are committed to leveraging Egypt’s top talents while forging strategic partnerships with the world’s leading companies to deliver products of the highest quality," he added.

Yehia further explained, "As our networks continue to evolve, we are dedicated to introducing cutting-edge devices that match the growing speeds of these networks, allowing our customers to fully benefit from this advanced infrastructure. The new router is a direct result of our ongoing efforts to meet customer needs and ensure their satisfaction."

Supporting Egypt’s Economic Growth

"Today, we are proud to add another milestone to SICO’s journey, as we were the first to produce a fully locally manufactured smartphone in Egypt. Now, we continue to lead by manufacturing the first 5G technology router locally. This step reflects our unwavering commitment to advancing Egypt’s technology industry," said Mohamed Salem, Chairman of SICO.

"SICO's work aligns with the government's vision to strengthen local manufacturing as a key pillar of economic growth. Producing these advanced devices locally aims not only to reduce reliance on imports but also to save foreign currency and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products in global markets," he explained.
