The meeting focused on mechanisms to provide the project with secure, stable and sustainable electricity supplies, including through renewable and clean energy sources, the ministry said in a statement.
The project comes as Egypt seeks to support and localize the data centre and technology industries, accelerate digital transformation and expand applications of artificial intelligence and digital services.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital, was attended by Heka Data Chairman Ahmed El-Hefny and representatives of the US consortium, as well as officials from the electricity and communications sectors.
The officials reviewed Heka Data’s work plan and the project's overall vision, including its potential contribution to Egypt’s data centre, cloud computing and artificial intelligence sectors.
They also discussed mechanisms and alternatives to support project establishment, including regulatory, legal, technical and investment frameworks, as well as options for providing its electricity needs.
The discussions covered attracting foreign direct investment and global technology companies and leveraging Egypt’s competitive advantages in electricity, telecommunications and infrastructure.
Esmat said Egypt has an energy infrastructure capable of meeting the investment requirements of technology and data centre industries.
He described data centres as a strategic sector linked to the rapid expansion of cloud computing, artificial intelligence applications and digital services.
The minister said the electricity sector is working under Egypt’s national energy strategy, which prioritizes renewable energy and aims to meet the requirements of sustainable and comprehensive development.
He added that the data centre industry forms part of Egypt’s digital transformation strategy and can contribute to improving service quality, increasing the efficiency of government and private-sector institutions, supporting digital solutions, and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.
The minister stressed that the success of the data centre industry depends on advanced infrastructure backed by stable and sustainable electricity supplies, saying Egypt has strong capabilities in this area compared with other countries in the region.
The project is also expected to support Egypt’s broader efforts to develop digital infrastructure and attract investment in data centres, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, building on the country’s strategic geographic location, advanced fibre-optic networks and regional and international connectivity.
