The announcement came following the delivery of a report to the minister by Ahmed Attar, head of the ministry’s agricultural quarantine administration, on the success of negotiations to finalise procedures to export Egyptian citrus to the Philippine market.
The negotiations had been ongoing since 2016, according to a statement by the ministry, but were held up by need to gain Philippine authorities’ approval.
A Philippine delegation recently visited Egypt and signed an export protocol after procedures were finalised guaranteeing botanical health in line with international standards.
El-Quseir said the success of the negotiations is one of the fruits of the new coding mechanism being implemented by the quarantine administration.
Meanwhile, the Philippine delegation hailed the mechanism for monitoring exports from Egypt.
