Egyptian bourse's market capital exceeds EGP 1.1 trillion for first time

For the first time in its history, the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) market capital exceeded on Sunday EGP 1.1 trillion prompted by strong activities of major stocks in the banking, communications, real estate and industrial domains.

The EGX indexes went up at the beginning of this week trading as EGX 30 benchmark index -- which includes the top 30 companies in terms of liquidity and activity -- ratcheted up by 2.5 percent to close at 17,201.22 points.

A week ago, EGX 30 benchmark index had been up by 0.33 percent, registering 16,118.85 points.

The broader EGX 70 index of the leading smaller and mid cap enterprises (SMEs) increased on Sunday by 1.01 percent to close at 3,062.75 points, up from 3,014.11 points a week ago.
