Market watch: Egyptian Exchange’s main index sets new record low on Monday

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) indices ended the week with a negative performance, with the bourse's main index setting a new record low of 19,280 points.

Stock market

The benchmark index, EGX30, decreased by 1.53 percent, reaching 19,278.7 points.

The EGX70 index went down by 0.91 percent to end at 3,797.15 points. The EGX100 declined 1.05 percent, closing at 5,584.09 points.

The market capitalization lost EGP 14.9 billion, reaching above EGP 1,290 billion.

The biggest gainer for the day was Macro Group Pharmaceuticals -Macro Capital, whose stock jumped 10.08 percent to close at EGP 2.62 per share.

The bourse's biggest loser for the day was Copper For Commercial Investment and Real Estate Development, whose stock fell 19.91 percent to close at EGP 0.56 per share.

 

Gold prices

A gram of 24-karat gold stood at EGP 2,510.75 for purchase on Monday, EGP 1 higher than on Sunday.

A gram of 21-karat gold was valued at EGP 2,297, EGP 101 higher a day before.

The price of 18-carat gold increased by EGP 1 to reach EGP 1,882.25 per gram.

The gold pound settled at EGP 17,608, an EGP 8 rise from Sunday.

Currencies

With a buy rate of EGP 30.84 and a sell rate of EGP 30.93, the official rate between the EGP and USD remains stable.

The euro is valued at EGP 33.06 for purchases and EGP 33.17 for sales.

The Saudi riyal is priced at EGP 8.22 to buy and EGP 8.24 to sell.
