Market watch: Egypt's bourse soars beyond historic highs on Thursday

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) broke yesterday’s historic records and the main index recorded a new all-time-high on Thursday, surpassing 25,500 points. Gold prices declined, but stayed at the highest levels in months.

Stock market
 

The EGX30 index jumped by 1.96 percent, settling at 25,519.49 points. 

Meanwhile, the EGX70 index rose by 0.63 percent, ending at 5,065.43 points.

The EGX100 index increased by 0.89 percent to close at 7,444.05 points.

The market capitalization gained around EGP 20 billion, ending at around EGP 1,711 billion.

Misr Duty Free Shops was the biggest winner in the market, surging by 20 percent to close at EGP 28.8 per share.

The greatest loser in the market was General Silos & Storage. Its stock fell 6.12 percent to reach EGP 150 per share.

Gold purchase prices
 

The purchase price of 24-carat gold declined by EGP 45 to EGP 3,143 per gram.

The 21-carat gold decreased by EGP 40 to EGP 2,750 per gram.

The 18-carat gold prices reached EGP 2,357 on Thursday, EGP 34 lower than yesterday.

The price of the gold pound coin declined by EGP 680 to record EGP 22,320 for purchase.

Currencies
 

With a buy rate of EGP 30.8306 and a sell rate of EGP 30.9586, the official EGP/USD exchange rate remains stable.

The euro is valued at EGP 33.6485 for purchase and EGP 33.7913 for sale.

The Saudi riyal is priced at EGP 8.22 for buying and EGP 8.2545 for selling.
