Nokia will offer its inclusive AirScale portfolio to give Telecom Egypt a better experience with faster data speeds and better performance and capacity. This collaboration will be executed later in 2024.

TE acquired the country’s first 5G license for mobile phones at the beginning of 2024 from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), valid for 15 years for $150 million.

The agreement says that Nokia will set up 5G radio access network (RAN) equipment from its industry-leading AirScale portfolio which consists of baseband units and its cutting-edge Massive MIMO radios.

These fixes use Nokia's energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology which will deliver expanded 5G coverage and capacity and allow for more comfortable set-ups, integration, and network optimization.

The 5G technology has various advantages including raising the capacity to allow for seamless connectivity in most of Egypt's densely populated areas. This promotes many applications and services that offer faster downloads, smoother streaming, and enhanced network performance.

“This new agreement with Nokia further strengthens our strong partnership, reaffirms our commitment to providing cutting-edge digital services, and positions us at the forefront of the 5G revolution,” said Chief Technology Officer at TE Mohamed Al-Fowey.

This 5G contract will offer new and exciting opportunities for people and businesses in Egypt to try out improved mobile connectivity acting as a cornerstone for leading the country's digital transformation, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia Tommi Uitto said.
