The opening ceremony, held in the Djiboutian capital on Monday, was attended by the Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, along with Minister of Trade and Tourism Mohamed Warsama Dirieh; Central Bank Governor Ahmed Osman Ali; Banque Misr CEO Hisham Okasha; Chairman of Banque Misr–Djibouti Hossam El-Din Abdel-Wahab; and CEO Mohamed Afifi.

Egyptian Ambassador Abdel-Rahman Raafat, diplomats, and business leaders were also present.

The launch follows President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Djibouti in April 2025, during which both sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation and expedite the establishment of Banque Misr in Djibouti.

Ambassador Raafat described the new branch as more than a financial institution, “a symbol of development and a bridge for economic integration” between Egypt and Djibouti.

He stated that the bank would support financial inclusion, sustainable development, and modern banking services, aligning with the policies of the Djibouti Central Bank.

Raafat reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Djibouti’s development projects, particularly in the financial and banking sectors, in line with directives from Egypt’s leadership to deepen economic cooperation.

Banque Misr CEO Hisham Okasha said the move reflects the bank’s role as a cornerstone of Egypt’s economic system and its ambition to expand across Africa.

He added that the branch aims not only to provide banking services but also to promote trade, investment, and development through integrated financial and funding solutions.

Djibouti’s Prime Minister praised Egypt’s continued support and described Banque Misr as one of the oldest and most respected banks in the Arab world and Africa.

He said its presence in Djibouti reflects growing international confidence in the country’s financial sector and thanked President El-Sisi and the Egyptian government for their partnership.
