Turkish conglomerate Eczacıbaşı plan to invest in Egypt building materials industry: Ministry

Turkish Eczacıbaşı Holding Group is planning to invest in Egypt’s building materials sector as the two countries continue to strengthen economic ties, according to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and External Trade on Tuesday.

The Turkish firm has discussed with the ministry and the General Authority for Investments and Free Zones (GAFI) investment and manufacturing opportunities, production costs, and potential expansions in Egypt’s building materials sector and several other industrial areas.

Eczacıbaşı Holding is a Turkish industrial group of companies founded in 1942.  As of 2023, the Group's 50 companies, which specialize in building materials, consumer products, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and natural resources. The group employs more than 13,500 people, operate 40 production plants, and generate a combined net turnover of TL 33 billion.

The announcement comes ahead of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Cairo on Wednesday for talks on political and economic cooperation.

The visit coincides with the first meeting of the Turkey–Egypt Joint Planning Group, a newly established mechanism aimed at improving coordination between the two foreign ministries and preparing the ground for wider cooperation in political, economic, security, and cultural fields.

The company plans to invest in Egypt as a local manufacturing hub, producing goods under its name for export to Turkey, the European Union, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The discussions with the Turkish conglomerate come as part of the country's goal of strengthening its integration of investment and trade and establishing itself as a regional industrial and logistics hub, said Investment Minister Hassan ElKhatib, according to the statement.

Turkish-Egyptian relations have been improving since 2023, with the full restoration of diplomatic relations and the exchange of ambassadors after years of strain. President Erdoğan made his first visit to Cairo in more than a decade in February 2024.

Since June 2025, the two countries have aimed to raise bilateral trade from $9 billion to $15 billion.

In November 2025, Turkish businessmen visited various locations in Egypt, including the SCZone, to explore investment opportunities.
