Qatar's state news agency says the OPEC member's emir has unexpectedly named a new minister, Dr. Mohammad Saleh Al Sada, to head the oil and natural gas-rich country's influential Energy Ministry.
Qatar News Agency said Tuesday the previous minister of energy and industry Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah has been appointed to head the emiri diwan, or emir's court, which serves as the center of government for the country's hereditary ruler. He will also remain deputy prime minister.
A top official in the energy ministry, Mohammed Saleh al-Sada, was named the new minister of energy and industry.
No reason was given for the surprise shift. The energy minister typically serves as Qatar's representative to OPEC.
