Egypt, Greece FMs discuss boosting cooperation in energy field

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias followed up during a meeting in Cairo Monday on ways of activating tripartite memoranda of understanding with Cyprus in the energy field, particularly in the areas of natural gas and electricity interconnection.

During their meeting the FMs stressed the importance of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) as a framework for multilateral cooperation in the field of energy, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said.

In October 2021, Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus signed a trilateral agreement on power linkage during a summit gathering the leaders of the three countries in Athens.

The two top diplomats discussed also ways to promote economic cooperation, increase the volume of trade exchange and activate various sectors of cooperation between their countries.

They further agreed to coordinate stances on various issues of mutual concern.
