The meetings, held separately with John Ardill, vice president for exploration at ExxonMobil Global, and John Christmann, CEO of Apache Corporation, were attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy, according to presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy.
ExxonMobil meeting
El-Sisi said ExxonMobil is a “strategic partner” for Egypt’s energy industry and praised its role in supporting the country’s oil and gas development.
According to the presidency, the discussion reviewed progress in several of ExxonMobil’s Mediterranean concession areas and explored prospects for future cooperation “in light of Egypt’s rapid development in the energy sector.”
Ardill briefed the President on operations in the company’s “Cairo” and “Masry” offshore blocks, where seismic surveys have been completed and new drilling technologies have been deployed to intensify exploration, enhancing Egypt’s position as a regional energy hub.
Minister Badawy reviewed the investment opportunities available in exploration and production and said ExxonMobil remains one of Egypt’s most prominent international partners, citing its technological expertise and long-standing investments.
El-Sisi stressed the state’s commitment to facilitating exploration projects and removing bureaucratic obstacles, saying Egypt looks forward to the company intensifying its exploration and development activities to raise production and strengthen national energy security.
Apache meeting
In a separate meeting, El-Sisi received John Christmann, chief executive of Apache Corporation, the largest US investor in Egypt’s oil and gas sector.
He said Apache’s long presence in Egypt had sent “a positive message about the strength of Egyptian-American cooperation” and helped attract further US investment.
The talks, attended by Greg McDaniel, Apache’s senior vice president for international assets, and the company’s Egypt general manager, focused on expanding exploration and production operations in line with international standards.
El-Shennawy said El-Sisi praised Apache’s achievements in Egypt over the past decades and reviewed its plans to increase activities in the Western Desert.
Christmann reaffirmed the company’s commitment to “boosting production levels in the coming period” and highlighted the “promising opportunities for new discoveries.”
In tandem, the President reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all necessary facilitation to the company to achieve mutual interests and expressed his aspiration for Apache to intensify its exploration and development activities in the country, contributing to the growth of Egypt’s energy sector and the consolidation of its role as a regional hub for energy production and investment.
