Summer is not official until we hang by the sea. Hence the idea of reviewing FOTOMASR's latest photography book under the same title.
By the Sea is the second in a series of photography books dedicated to Egypt's photographic memory, personal photos.
The first was wedding pictures and this is Album two, titled By the Sea.
FOTOMasr was founded by photographer Hala ElKousy who explains in the book that the archive holds hundreds of photographs -- both amateur and professional -- and that the oldest dates back to the early twenties but stretches all the way into the seventies.
The collection unveils lost memories of our childhood, and our parent's childhood.
In the images there is the Fereska seller (Feresca is a sweet pastry invented by Italians who lived in Alexandria and is not to be found anywhere else), you can spot the famous beach photographer and his primitive photo shop technique where he would edit the photos so that the picture of the subject is visible several times once inside heart shapes, and the wooden statues made to entertain children on the beaches.
