Gaza Monologues in Rawabet

Egypt's oldest independent theatre troupe recites the words of Gaza's youth under attack

Ahram Online, Monday 10 Jan 2011

The evening is held in commemoration of the Israeli Cast Lead operation against the Gaza Strip between December 2008 and January 2009.

The Gaza Monologues was established in 2010 by the Palestinian ASHTAR theatre. In the wake of ferocious attack on Gaza, the theatre held a three-month workshop for young people to express their experiences, dreams, fears and hopes. The monologues that came out of this have been performed worldwide.

The Warsha theatre troupe is the first independent troupe in the free theatre movement in Egypt, forming in 1987. It has toured locally, within the Arab World and further afield since 1990.

The Gaza Monolugues performance is at the Rawabet theatre next to the Townhouse Gallery, Downtown Cairo, January 10 at 8 pm
