On Thursday 5 December, the Cairo Opera House will celebrate Al-Tanboura troupe's silver jubilee.
Al-Tanboura is a unique troupe for authentic Egyptian folk music, merging Al-Doma Sufi chants, fisherman’s folk hymns and songs of resistance that transport listeners to other dimensions of time and place.
For 25 years and counting, Al-Tanboura has managed to preserve, and reinvent, folk Egyptian songs that venerate local social history between their lines.
Thursday, the celebration comprises two performances:
Africa East and West
Al-Moalem Zein Troupe from Morocco in collaboration with key Egyptian players
From 7pm to 8pm
Al-Tanboura troupe
From 8:15 pm to 9:30pm
Performances will be held at the Cairo Opera House's Open Air Theatre
