On Thursday 5 December, Cairo Opera House celebrates Al-Tanboura's silver jubilee with more of the troupe's authentic Egyptian folk music

On Thursday 5 December, the Cairo Opera House will celebrate Al-Tanboura troupe's silver jubilee.

Al-Tanboura is a unique troupe for authentic Egyptian folk music, merging Al-Doma Sufi chants, fisherman’s folk hymns and songs of resistance that transport listeners to other dimensions of time and place.

For 25 years and counting, Al-Tanboura has managed to preserve, and reinvent, folk Egyptian songs that venerate local social history between their lines.

Thursday, the celebration comprises two performances:

Africa East and West
Al-Moalem Zein Troupe from Morocco in collaboration with key Egyptian players
From 7pm to 8pm

Al-Tanboura troupe
From 8:15 pm to 9:30pm

Performances will be held at the Cairo Opera House's Open Air Theatre
