The National Organization for Urban Harmony (NOUH), in collaboration with the Cairo Governorate and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University, launched a unique open-air art studio on the pavement of Al Sharifain Street in the heart of Downtown Cairo, marking 1,056 years since the capital's founding.

Mohamed Abu Seada, CEO of NOUH, explained to Ahram Online that Al Sharifain Street will serve as an art studio open for young artists to sketch and play their music every weekend.

Al Sharifain Street stretches for a few hundred yards behind the headquarters of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and anchors various historical buildings built in the early 20th century.

These include the old premises of Egyptian Radio Broadcast and the old Stock Exchange.

This part of downtown has been part of NOUH's restoration project to reclaim the area's cultural grandeur as a one-time cosmopolitan cultural hub, according to Abu Seada.

Al Sharifain was booming with enthusiastic young artists who came to sketch and play their musical instruments in the heart of Cairo amid its oldest architectural gems.

“We are very excited to be here,” Ruba Sameh, an applied arts student, told Ahram Online.

“We knew about the event from our student union, and we are very happy to be part of it,” said Noura Ahmed, a fine arts student.
