Electoral results in South Sinai have revealed that the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) candidate list has emerged victorious followed by the liberal Wafd Party, a first for the region that is usually dominated by the Islamist parties.
The FJP was significantly in the lead with 14,279 votes. The liberal Wafd Party secured 5,610 votes followed closely by the Reform and Development Party which won 5,544. The Egyptian Bloc recieved the least votes securing just 3,754.
Judge Hussein Muslim, the head of the judicial committee observing the elections, has announced that run-offs will take place for the professional seat between Mohamed Salem of the Salafist Al-Nour Party and independent Abdo Abdel Rizk.
There will also be run-offs for the worker’s seat between Gharib Hassan and Farag Brek, both of the El-Mazayna tribe.
