Polling stations resumed receiving voters on Tuesday for the run-offs of Egypt’s last round of the parliamentary elections. Run-offs are held where there was no clear winner. Elections will also be repeated in constituencies where election results were nullified due to violations.

Run-offs will take place in the nine governorates of Qalioubiya, Gharbiya,Daqahliya, North Sinai, South Sinai, Marsa Matrouh, Minya, Al-Wadi Al-Gedid and Qena. The run-offs will be competing over 45 individual candidacy seats.

Constituencies where elections are being repeated are located in Alexandria and Cairo. The court had also ordered that elections be repeated in Qalioubiya. The Supreme Electoral Committee has however not applied the order, and the run-offs are resuming normally.

The first session of the new parliament is scheduled to take place on 23 January.
