Judiciary official sources on Tuesday announced that the Public Funds Prosecution is discussing the possibility of referring the graft case against presidential contender Ahmed Shafiq to investigative Judge Hisham Raaouf or to Military Prosecution.
Public Funds Prosecution requested two week's worth of further investigations into the credibility of accusations by Wasat Party MP Essam Sultan that Shafiq facilitated an illegal sale of 40,000 acres of state land to Hosni Mubarak's sons for a reduced price.
The sources discussed referring the lawsuit to the Military Prosecution as Shafiq is charged with exploiting his position as head of the Young Air Force Officers Association, because the Ismailia state land he helped to sell to the ousted president's sons, was earmarked for the association.
Sultan gave testimony to the Public Funds Prosecution on Monday.
Mubarak's last prime minister refuted the accusations at a press conference on Monday held at Shafiq's villa in the Dokki district of Cairo.
Three weeks ago, Shafiq was charged with 35 charges of corruption and squandering public money.
Egypt's first post-Mubarak presidential poll will be held on 23 and 24 May, with a runoff vote if necessary on 16 and 17 June.
