The political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), which controls both houses of the Egyptian parliament, announced on Thursday that it will determine which of the presidential candidates it intends to support after the end of the presidential candidacy registeration period.
The FJP said that it will review programs for all official presidential candidates before it settles on a choice.
The registeration for presidential candidacy will start on 10 March 2012 and will end on 8 April 2012.
The announcement came after a meeting for the Excecutive Bureau of the party. The meeting also discussed current political issues including preparations for the formation of a constitutent assembly which would draft a new constitution for Egypt.
The party made it clear in a statement that it believes that the constitutent assembly should represent all sectors of the Egyptian people .
There has been widespread specalutions regarding the presidential candidate that the Freedom and Justice Party would endorse. However, it is expected that the Party will choose the same presidential candidate that the Muslim Brotherhood will support.
On the other hand, the liberal
Wafd party announced on Wednesday that it will endorse the head of the ruling military council's advisory board, Mansour Hassan, bid for presidency.
