Violent clashes erupted between various presidential campaign members inside the notary office in Moharam Bek, Alexandria. A number of campaign members for Mahmoud Hossam, previously an officer in the notorious State Security in Alexandria, attacked queues of members of other campaigns after a verbal fight.

Hazem Salah Abou Ismail campaign members called Ahram online from the inside the notary office and confirmed that they had been attacked and assaulted along with members of Abdel Moneim Abul-Fotouh and Hamdeen Sabahi's campaigns.

A member of Abou Ismail's campaign, Mohamed Tarek, stated that he and his campaign members were surprised that employees of the documentation office declined to write any recommendation forms except for members of Hossam's campaign.

Tarek added that conflicts developed between Hossam's campaign members and their supervisors who brought them by microbuses, explaining that supporters asked for LE50 in return for writing the candidacy recommendation forms while the supervisors refused to give them LE50 and gave them LE40 only.

Tarek stated that campaign members filed a complaint against the officials of the notary office who refused to write recommendation forms and caused them to be attacked.

Each presidential candidate who has decided not to rely on the support of 30 members of parliament needs 30,000 signed recommendation forms from across Egypt to run in the upcoming presidential elections. The elections will be held 23-24 May, with the results announced 21 June after a runoff round, if necessary, 16-17 June.
