Egypt’s ‘Masrena’ activist movement reportedly plans to launch an initiative in support of Islamist presidential contender Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh.
Initiative organisers say participants plan to hit the streets in governorates throughout Egypt to raise awareness about Abul-Fotouh’s political programme.
The initiative is expected to begin its activities on Saturday on Abbas Al-Akkad Street in Cairo’s Nasr City district, where Masrena members will distribute posters and flyers in support of Abul-Fotouh.
The Masrena movement was formed in January by Egyptian activists of different political backgrounds, including Wael Ghoneim, Wael Khalil, and political science professor Moatez Abdel-Fatah.
In early march, the movement declared its support for Abul-Fotouh’s presidential bid after having conducted a survey among its roughly 10,000 members.
In recent months, Masrena has held a series of events with the aim of reminding the public about the chief demands of last year’s revolution.
