Ministry of Health Secretary Hisham Shiha announced that 15 were injured in the clashes that erupted in the Abbassiya district Friday after unknown assailants reportedly attacked presidential candidate Omar Suleiman's supporters.

On Friday Omar Suleiman, Mubarak's former intelligence chief and vice-president , backtracked on a decision not to run for president and declared he would officially start campaigning. No fatalities were reported from the attack.

It was reported that unknown perpetrators fired gunshots and molotov cocktails on Suleiman's supporters who set up a podium in Abbassiya in the wake of his announcement that he would run for presidency.

Shiha said seven of the injured were immediately treated on and eight more were hospitalised. They were admitted to El-Demerdash, Dar El-Shefa, El-Zahraa El-Gamei and Medical Insurance hospitals in the nearby district of Nasr City.

All injured were released except for two, who are still in El-Demerdash and El-Zahraa hospitals, Shiha stated.

The police arrested several suspects after the attack.

Eyewitnesses said some of the Abbassiya residents wanted to take the podium to say a word but were denied. They, consequently, left and returned with firearms.
