The presidential candidate of the Socialist Popular Alliance Party is touring Upper Egypt on the campaign trail

Socialist Popular Alliance Party (SPAP) presidential candidate Abu El-Ezz El-Hariri arrived to Aswan Wednesday to pursue his campaign.

El-Hariri met with campaign members in Aswan International Airport and then started a tour of the city to meet residents. El-Hariri talked with demonstrators at a protest, and then briefly discussed his presidential plan in the Nouba Youth Centre.

El-Hariri is meeting with the public in a discussion Wednesday evening in Nasr Al-Nouba Centre in Oteiba village. He might hold a public discussion on Thursday in Edfu.

A well-known member of Parliament, socialist and labour activist over the past 50 years, El-Hariri has a long record of fighting for social justice.

The SPAP nominated El-Hariri on 7 March as the party's candidate in the presidential elections. He announced his candidacy that night on Al-Arabiya satellite TV.

Presidential elections will take place 23-24 May, with the president named 21 June after a runoff round — if necessary — 16-17 June.
