Member of the April 6 Youth Movement Democratic Front Tarek El-Khouly has said that reports that the Revolutionary Youth Coalition (RYC) has decided to back presidential hopeful Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh are incorrect.

A posting on the RYC's Facebook page indicated that the group would support the moderate Islamist candidate, but El-Khouly claims that this only expresses the viewpoint of RYC member Mohamed El-Kassas.

Mohamed El-Kassas, who is also a member of the Egyptian Current Party, was explaining that the RYC online poll revealed Abul-Fotouh had the highest level of support, followed by Nasserist presidential hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi.

El-Khouly further added that some groups within the RYC have already decided to support Abul-Fotouh for the presidential race, including the Justice and Freedom Youth Movement and the Egyptian Current Party.

Some major Salafist groups have also backed the ex-Muslim Brotherhood leader for president over Mohamed Morsi, the Brotherhood's official candidate.
