Presidential candidate Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh issued a statement Tuesday on the 64th anniversary of the fall of Palestine, Nakba.

The Islamist candidate, who organised aid convoys to besieged Gaza on several occasions over the years and spent years in Mubarak prisons, saluted palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails for the success of their hunger strike as they forced the Israeli authorities to accept some of their demands last Monday.

In the statement, Abul-Fotouh made it clear ‘that the upcoming strong democratic Egypt will not return back as the military ally of the United States in the region and as strategic treasure for Zionist entity," in reference to Israel's stated reliance on the ousted regime of former president Mubarak.

“Egypt will not participate in the blockade against the Palestinian people in anyway,” Abul-Fotouh added.

He also made it clear that after Egypt after the January 25 revolution will support the right of the Palestinian refugees to return to the occupied territories.
