A fight escalated to gunshots over an Ahmed Shafiq presidential campaign poster in Menoufiya, in the populated Delta region in Egypt.

The fight broke out after members of the Shahin family tried to post a Shafiq campaign poster on a building that houses El-Saidi family, who vehemently objected.

The fight escalated to the point where live ammunition was used.

Six individuals from the two families were shot. None were killed.

Ahmed Shafiq topped the voting in the presidential race in Menoufiya, the hometown of ousted president Hosni Mubarak. The city gave Shafiq, an ex-regime member, 11 per cent of his total votes.

Elections runoffs on 16 and 17 June pit Shafiq against Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi.
