The official spokesman of the Salafist Nour Party, Nader Bakkar, commented on his Twitter account on the progress of Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate, in the vote-counting of the second round of Egypt's presidential elections. The count thus far has Morsi beating out his opponent, Mubarak's ex-prime minister Ahmed Shafiq, in the runoffs.

Bakkar wrote that this is a victory for all Egypt, not a certain political current. "And I insist that those who voted for Shafiq are Egyptians who took part in creating a renaissance; we will not take revenge against anyone."

He specifically thanked the revolution’s youth, April 6 Youth Movement, and all political forces. He added that "We only thank God for all of that; now it is time for building."

Bakkar's party supported ex-Brotherhood member Abdel Moneim Abul-Fotouh in the first round of elections. However, considering the two choices in the runoff: an ex-regime candidate, Shafiq, or Mohamed Morsi, the Salafists supported fellow Islamist, Morsi.

Runoffs took place on 16 and 17 June. Vote counting started after polls closed at 10pm on 17 June and is still in progress. So far, Morsi stands at 51.74 per cent, while Shafiq took 48.25 per cent. Official results are expected to be announced on Thursday, 20 June.
